Early Doors
David had a difficult early life at the hands of his alcoholic mother and abusive stepfather. This led him into a difficult period at the age of 16 that involved petty crime, two attempted suicides, being expelled from school and a juvenile criminal conviction.
After working in a factory for $2 an hour, he got an office job. Aged 20, his life changed infinitely for the better when he became an operational fire-fighter. For a blue collar guy, this was the top of the pile. A job he deeply loved serving his local community providing an emergency service.
The Memory Years
While in the Fire Department, David struggled to pass his promotion exams. One day, he saw a guy memorise a pack of playing cards on TV. He bought his book and 8 months later went to the World Memory Championships coming 4th. He went on to develop one of the most powerful memories in history.
Over the following years, he became US Memory Champion, an International Grandmaster of Memory, broke a Guinness record for reciting Pi to 22,500 digits, broke a US memory record for memorising 160 digits in 5 minutes and much more.
Speaker
David began teaching memory techniques in 1997 in the Fire Department and soon moved on to schools, universities, associations and companies.
In 1999, he left the Fire Department to become a professional speaker.
He has spoken to more than 500,000 people in 60 countries. Venues include Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Harvard Club, NYC and Wembley, London.
In 2003, he began speaking for CEO mentoring groups and has spoken to over 3500 MDs and CEOs. One of the groups, the Academy for Chief Executives, awarded him their highest accolade - Speaker Hall of Fame.
Leadership Presentation Skills Coach
11 years ago, one of David's clients asked him to prepare them to speak at the British Houses of Parliament to get the law changed in their industry. He has done this with leaders in 60 countries.
He has prepared CEOs to pitch for over $250m of investment in countries as far afield as South Korea, Iceland and Australia.
Coronavirus developed David's coaching further as he was inundated with requests to prepares leaders to speak remotely.
